Apian expanding drone delivery network in London

Apian, a graduate of our 2021 NHS Market Access Accelerator, have announced the expansion of  their drone delivery network in London, following a successful partnership with an NHS Trust in the capital last Autumn.

Having already delivered over 5000 patient samples in their work with drone delivery partner Wing and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Apian are now partnering with urban drone delivery experts Matternet. This partnership will allow them to cover additional routes and to integrate into pathology networks, including the Synnovis laboratory (SYNLAB) hub in Blackfriars, helping to process tens of millions of tests every month.

Alongside this new partnership, Apian are also working with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children to look towards trialling autonomous ground delivery robots. The robots would enable hands-free transport of samples and supplies between the delivery drones and their destination’s clinical teams, further reducing delays and staff burden.

Additionally, Apian had the chance to showcase their technology at a Downing Street reception during London Tech Week, underlining the huge potential of their solution to help with the transformation of the NHS.

Apian is a platform which bridges the gap between drone operators and healthcare providers. Through their API (application programming interfaces) they can manage healthcare orders, select a carrier, optimise the schedule and provide real-time tracking, all while integrating with existing healthcare systems to avoid extra administrative burden.
