Dr. Esther Quinn was our first Innovation Fellow. As a specialist registrar in paediatrics with an interest in early intervention and health promotion, she gathered needs from across paediatrics and started a project within the paediatric emergency department, to evaluate the effect of remote patient monitoring on patient flow and to learn more about its use in an acute paediatric setting.
Her role encompassed her usual clinical responsibilities as a Specialist Registrar for three days a week, with two days dedicated to digital innovation as part of her Innovation Fellowship role.
Esther’s fellowship was funded by the Thinking of Oscar Charity, whose focus is to improve. The experiences of children and their families in hospital care. Remote Patient Monitoring was identified as a technology which could have a positive impact in an acute paediatric setting and Esther began to put the groundwork in place.
As the inaugural Innovation Fellow, an interim review stage was held, with key stakeholders from paediatrics to understand the impact the role had on their department.
